Dieses Lexikon ist ein absolutes Muss für jeden Studenten der Sprachwissenschaft und wird von jedem Dozenten wärmstens und mit Nachdruck für das Studium empfohlen. Der einzige Nachteil dieses Buches besteht darin, dass es 1990 erschienen ist und somit die neue Termionologie der letzten 10 Jahre nicht enthält. Eine 3. Auflage wird seit einigen Jahren sehnlichst erwartet und bis dahin muss das "Metzler-Lexikon der Sprache" (2000) als Ergänzung benutzt werden.
